I am a wounded healer who knows what it is like to work through past hurts in order to heal and to thrive in the present.

I have actively used the enclosed resources and so many more to help me make sense of things
that happened in my life and to take back my power --personally and professionally.

I am an eclectic art therapist
with 35+ years in the MH field who would like to work with you.

I'm Skylar

greetings!

I had the privilege of taking a Psychology Class in High School and knew I was going to go to college.

Knowing, I was too much of an introvert to become an art teacher, I chose to study Psychology with the goal of becoming a therapist some day.

There were some unsettling roadblocks on the way to becoming a therapist, yet I persevered by doing my own therapy as well as working in between my bachelor's and master's degrees to gain work experience; including some manual labor.

I tried a few jobs in the mental health field and took additional grad classes so I could become licensed in 2014.  This past year, I felt the need to go out on my own and established Welcoming Connections, LLC.

How it all started

increase your self awareness and how to tap into your internal powers to collaboratively mend your hurt parts.

figure out what you want out of life and how to achieve it--career-wise, relationship-wise, etc.

learn and utilize unique ways to help you feel more sane and whole.

make sense of things that happened to you in the past and to heal from them.

I'm here to help you

I know personally and professionally what it is like to be queer and non-binary.  I have had specific training for helping the LGBTQ+ community.

I have years of experience as a family therapist.  With this knowledge, I wrote and illustrated a parenting resource, The ABCs for Rediscovering Family Connections: An Interactive Workbook for Caregivers to help caregivers to learn down-to-earth skills to help how they raise their children in a more proactive manner.

I am trained to work with children from 5 and up using play therapy techniques to help them to increase self-control, to follow directions, and to get along better with others.
